SOCIAL HOUSING ADVOCACY AND SUPPORT PROGRAM
Ballarat and Horsham

Free assistance for tenants of the Office of Housing and community housing services

• Advocacy for tenants about rent, tribunal and disputes
• Support for new tenants and tenancies at risk
• Tenant participation

Tenants sometimes have difficulties with their housing, and need extra help. The Social Housing Advocacy and Support Program (SHASP) has trained and dedicated staff that can assist.

Advocacy
– ensuring you understand your rights, helping you negotiate with your landlord, speaking on your behalf to resolve problems. This can include attending VCAT (Tribunal) with you.

Support for vulnerable tenancies
– working alongside tenants whose tenancy is at risk due to rent, neighbourhood, family or other problems.

Tenant participation
– assistance for tenants to develop skills, form groups, and participate in their community.
